Christian Counselling Department

Program Description

Welcome to Canada Christian College Department of Christian Counselling! We invite you to come and experience learning that transforms lives.

The mission of the department is to prepare professional Christian counsellors to operate both in Christian and non-Christian communities. The department is committed to help students develop the knowledge, values, and necessary competencies for an effective professional Christian counselling ministry. More and more we are seeing that people are unable to deal with the challenges, misfortunes, and uncertainties of life. Consequently, they come to counselling for guidance and help. The learning opportunities offered by our department give students the chance to acquire the tools and theoretical understanding that permit them to bring healing and meaning to the lives of hurting people.

While our programs of study are designed around the revealed truth of Scripture, students learn to evaluate and apply relevant and reliable findings in the social sciences to the understanding of people and their life situations. In addition to this, our Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral programs cover several areas of specializations offering students a wide range of counselling options that will fit with their particular counselling interest and spiritual calling.

Within the Bachelor and Master’s programs students can choose to specialize in Addiction Counselling, Marriage and Family Counselling, Pastoral Care and Counselling, Social Work, or may select to pursue a general focus. Each of these specializations provides students with the academic and practical backgrounds needed to work proficiently in his or her particular field of specialization from a Christian perspective.

The Christian Counselling Department will impart knowledge from a wide array of theoretical counseling and psychotherapeutic practices and systems. This will allow each counsellor to develop an effective therapy model they works best in their practice.
Students will learn the values and ethical guidelines relevant to the practice of psychotherapy. This will enable each psychotherapist to establish their own boundaries and procedures for their practice that will help build an effective psychotherapeutic practice.
Beyond theoretical knowledge, the Christian Counselling department will develop certain competencies in each student that are required to be effective counsellors. Student will not only learn the psychotherapeutic techniques, but also the methodology behind them so that they can be most effectively implemented while counselling.
